I took a trip to Randolph Engineering today. After a little back and forth with RE on Facebook I got the 411 on the factory store and company tour. Ryan, who is interning for the summer at RE from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, showed me around. We chatted about a few thing while I looked around such as Michael Bastian X RE, Don Draper wearing RE’s, and (capsule). Ryan told me that if you follow RE on Facebook, you can look forward to a RE video series in the near future. As a side note, is was weird to actually SPEAK about things like Michael Bastian, (capsule), and menswear blogs; my friends just wouldn’t understand.

I expected machines in the shop and I was not disappointed. Above the machine floor was another floor where folks were assembling the finished product. I couldn’t leave without getting something from the factory store. Ryan and Amy Callahan helped me with choosing the right cable temples and took my order. RE made my new sunglasses from scratch while I waited. After about 5-10 minutes a nice lady came down with my new shades (which I’ll show off in my next post).

It was very nice and generous of the folks at RE to take the time out of their day to show me around. It was also great to visit a local company that makes a great product. Some people says that America doesn’t make anything anymore. Randolph Engineering is a good start.
